Life's Profound Lessons

Life has many lessons.  Some we continue to ignore and others can be profound.  Our youngest daughter at the age of 11 taught me a profound lesson.  She would randomly grab her fishing rod, tackle box, bait and knife and yell out ‘see you later’ and be off.

Now…. We are truly blessed in New Zealand with our environment.  I guess Covid has taught us to appreciate the little things.  It also gave us the excuse to see more of our own backyard.  We are fortunate to be surrounded by beauty.

When she came back, not catching anything, she’d have a smile on her face.  I’m sure if she had caught something, she’d have freaked out.  Chatting to a neighbour about this ritual, they said that our daughter had found her happy place. Somewhere to spend time by herself and maybe reflect on whatever was on her mind.

Finding your happy space, whether it’s having a coffee in a café, having a long hot shower, walking on the beach or in the bush or even fishing; it is hugely important to take time out and reflect (or even think of nothing).  I’m sure that the fast pace we all live these days is not conducive to our bodies capabilities.  We should all just unplug (even if only for a few minutes) throughout our day, appreciate our journey and not rush to the destination.  Find that one space we so desire to rest in limbo; recharge our soul and mind and let our imagination run away.
